About
Marcus Denison
Data platform engineer and Apache Airflow expert from Hamburg. I build self-service data platforms other teams can safely build on.
Experience & background
Over more than 15 years in software engineering — freelance since 2022 — I've built and evolved data platforms, data warehouses and pipelines: from replacing home-grown ETL with Apache Airflow, to warehouse and lakehouse architectures with Redshift, Athena and dbt, to privacy-compliant integrations and RAG applications on AWS.
Why work with me
I bring a background in both software and data engineering, work hands-on inside your team and communicate directly — in German or English. Data protection and maintainability are part of the solution from the start.
Values
What guides the work
- Platforms your team can run
- I build so you won't need me in the end: readable code, clear conventions and good documentation.
- Honest, peer-level communication
- Clear answers about what's possible, what it costs and where the risks are — decisions are explained, not just delivered.
- Routine, not risk
- Proven technology, automated tests and deployments, traceable changes. Stable platforms come from routine, not heroics.
